Payment Policy

Effective Date: September 5, 2026

At The Cardboard Boxes, we keep our payment process simple and transparent. This Payment Policy explains how we accept payment, when payment is due and what happens if something goes wrong. It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions, Return & Refund Policy and Shipping Policy.

1. Accepted Payment Methods

We accept the following payment methods for orders placed through our website:

  • Debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and other supported cards)
  • PayPal
  • Bank transfer, where agreed in advance for business or wholesale orders

Payments are processed by trusted third-party providers such as Stripe and PayPal. We do not accept cash on delivery.

2. Currency and Pricing

All prices on our website are shown in GBP (£).

Where VAT or any other tax applies, it will be shown clearly before you confirm your order and on your invoice.

Standard delivery is free on all UK orders with no minimum order value. If an express or special delivery service carries an extra charge, that cost is confirmed to you before the order is placed.

If your bank or card provider charges a currency conversion or international transaction fee, that fee is set by them and is not something we control or receive.

3. When Payment Is Due

Full payment is required before production begins. For custom products, we start work only once we have received both your full payment and your final artwork approval.

For larger wholesale or contract orders, a deposit and balance arrangement may be agreed in writing before the order is confirmed. Where a balance is outstanding, goods will not be dispatched until it has been paid in full.

Production and delivery timeframes only start from the date of full payment and final artwork approval. Details are on our Shipping Policy page.

4. Custom Quotes and Invoices

Custom quotes are based on the specification you give us, including size, material, quantity, printing and finishes.

A quote is valid for 14 days from the date it is issued unless we state otherwise. If your specification changes after a quote is issued, the price may change and we will confirm the new amount with you before taking payment.

Invoices are sent by email and include your order number and a full breakdown of the charges.

5. Order Confirmation

Your order is confirmed once payment has cleared and you receive an order confirmation from us by email.

If a payment is taken but the order cannot be fulfilled for any reason, we will contact you and refund the amount in full to the original payment method.

Pricing and product information is checked carefully, but if an obvious error is found after an order is placed, we will contact you to confirm whether you want to continue at the correct price or receive a full refund.

6. Payment Security

All payments are handled through secure, PCI compliant payment providers. Card details are entered directly with the payment provider and are encrypted during the transaction.

We do not store your full card details on our servers. Payment providers act as independent data controllers and handle your data under their own privacy policies.

More information on how we handle your data is in our Privacy Policy.

7. Failed or Declined Payments

If a payment is declined or fails to clear, your order will not be processed and production will not begin.

We will normally contact you so you can try again or use a different payment method. Any delay in payment will push back the production and delivery timeframe.

Where a payment is reversed, charged back or recalled after production has started, we may pause or stop work on the order until the matter is resolved.

8. Additional Charges

Extra charges may apply in the following cases, and will always be confirmed with you before they are taken:

  • Express or rush production services
  • Express or special delivery services
  • Hard proofs requested before production
  • Changes to a specification after an order has been confirmed
  • Redelivery caused by an incorrect or incomplete delivery address

9. Cancellations and Refunds

Because almost everything we make is custom made to your specification, what you get back on a cancellation depends on how far along your order is.

Stage of your order What happens
Before you approve the artwork or digital proof Full refund, minus any design or administrative fees already incurred
After artwork approval, before production starts Refund minus design and administrative fees already incurred
After production has started We retain 60% of the product price. The remaining 40% is refunded
After the order has been dispatched The order can't be cancelled. Only defective, damaged or wrong items qualify for a refund

All refunds are issued in GBP to the original payment method. Approved refunds are processed within 5 working days of approval, although your bank or card provider may take a few extra days to show the funds.

We will not make any deduction that is not permitted by law, and nothing here affects your statutory rights. Full details are in our Return & Refund Policy.

10. Fraud Prevention

To protect our customers and our business, we may carry out checks on orders before processing them.

We may ask for proof of identity or address where an order looks unusual, and we may cancel and refund any order we reasonably believe to be fraudulent or unauthorised.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Payment Policy from time to time. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised date. The version live at the time you place your order is the one that applies to that order.
